Mammo Muchie, DPhil is currently Professor and Director of the Research Centre on Development Studies and International Relations, Department of History, International and Social Studies, Aalborg University in Denmark. He did his undergraduate studies in the natural sciences at Columbia University, New York City and obtained his MPhil and DPhil degrees from Sussex University, England with supervision from the IDS/SPRU in development economics and science, technology and innovation studies.
He also studied Measurement Science in Petrograd, Russia. He has taught and researched at various universities in the USA and Europe including Cambridge University and the Middlesex University (UK); the University of Aalborg (Denmark) and Amsterdam University (The Netherlands); and is an honorary professor at the Jianxing University in China. Between July 2003 and September 2004, he was the director of the research programme on “Civil Society and African Integration” at the Centre for Civil Society/School of Development Studies, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa. He has been editor and served in the editorial board of many journals. He has served as a reviewer of book manuscripts for a number of established houses including the UNU Press and initiated and served in many journals. He has also been involved when in the development of the Globelics network of scholars where he has introduced ideas of regional integration into innovation, learning and competence building.
He is chairman of the Network of Ethiopian Scholars that was established in 2001 that has published within a year over 35 articles.He has published over 200 publications over the last twenty years and some of his key seminal works have been translated into many languages. He has been a consultant for UNESCO on The FOrum on Higher education, Knowledge and research systems. He has been also visting professorial research fellow at EIRI and supported the institutes successful organisation of the 3rd Globelics international conference.
