TPLF prepares to mark 40th anniversary using gov’t coffers

The Tigre People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), a core member of the EPRDF, is preparing to celebrate its 40th anniversary with lavish feast and programs, the cost of which is being drawn from the government’s coffers. This big spending has been the talking point among the member parties of the EPRDF. TPLF says such an amount of money is being spent for the sake of “image building”.
Many cannot swallow why TPLF needed to use government coffers while it could have used money from its own corporation, Endowment Fund for the Relief of Tigray (EFFORT), which controls one third of the Country’s wealth. The total cost of the celebration is not known however; so far the cost is being covered by regional and federal governments.
Selected artists and journalists will travel to Tigary region on December 22, 2014 in preparation for the celebration set to be held on February 18, 2014. Their total costs are being covered by the government. Sources say the TPLF planned to get the Region visited in order to do a wide propaganda work.
