Martyrs of June 8 remembered

ESAT News

The martyrs of the post 2005 Ethiopian general election violence have been remembered both
inside and outside Ethiopia.
In Ethiopia, Semayawi (Blue) Party, All Ethiopian Unity Party (AEUP) and UDJ parties have
remembered the martyrs with various programs. Similarly, Ethiopians residing in Europe and
the U.S. have also remembered the victims.
Professor Mesfin Woldemariam, who attended the event that was organised by Blue Party,
said “we should ask what obligation does the day we are marking today puts on each of us?”
He further said “when we remember those that have died fighting persecution, we should also
be careful not to pass it to the next generation.”
It is to be recalled that on June 8, 2005 several Ethiopians who protested saying “respect our
constitution” have been killed by government securities.
Among those killed include a 15 year old teenager named Nebiyu Alemayehu, twin brothers,
mothers and elders.
