Severe shortage of water and food has hit Kebele (districts) 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 and Shenkora, Jegol and Keledaba areas of Harar, Eastern Ethiopia, ESAT’s reporter said from the city.
The problem has started after six of the 17 water boreholes that have been dug recently with a cost of 80 million birr near Aseliso, 75 km from Harar city, have clogged. Out of the 11 boreholes, two of the boreholes are at risk being clogged.
Although experts had given warning before the boreholes were dug, they were burrowed under political orders.
Separately, lack of cooking oil which has been distributed by the government in the city, edible oil that used to be sold for 115 birr per litre is now being sold 175 birr per litre. The one that is locally produced is being sold 40 birr per litre.
ESAT’s efforts to speak to government officials regarding the problems have been unsuccessful.
