Twenty-one passengers have died as mini bus that was heading from Addis Abeba to Dessie city, North Central Ethiopia, plunged increasing the number of people who died from car accidents in one week to 66.
According to the local residents the cause of the accident was the low quality asphalt road that has been split by flood. Woldia Police Station confirmed to ESAT that a team of investigators has been sent to the area and cannot comment before it is completed.
ESAT has learnt that the bodies of the chauffer and three other passengers have not yet been discovered as they were taken by floodwater. Some of the deceased have been laid to rest in Kewaja, Kobo, Woldia and Sanka.
The residents said the heavy floodwater has been damaging the low quality asphalt roads. They say, the absence of any drainage is exposing the roads to damage.
It is to be recalled that 15 passengers have died as their minibus was ransacked by floodwater last week.
ESAT could not get responses from the officials the Ethiopian Roads Authority regarding the accidents.
