Kaliti official laughs at death of Oromo activist

Tuesday, August 27, 2013 @ 02:08 AM ed
ESAT has done a commendable job in confronting Kaliti prison officials on the death of Oromo rights activist Tesfahun Chemeda. Tesfahun,38, had fled to Kenya seeking refuge and protection. In violation of international conventions, Kenyan authorities detained and handed over Tesfahun to the TPLF regime. He was reportedly tortured to death in the hands of the regime’s agents, who allegedly abused him repeatedly and severely in the notorious Kaliti jail. When the journalist asked the Public Relations head of the prison, Gizachew Mengistu, to explain how Tesfahun died in jail he repeatedly laughed and giggled instead of giving an appropriate answer. It is a very sad story. Addis Voice extends its heartfelt condolences to Tesfahun’s family and friends. RIP.
