ESAT News
August 9, 20103
Ethiopian Federal Police officers have fired at Ethiopian Muslim protesters that have shouted slogans after celebrating the 1434th Eid al-Fitr in Dessie town, North Central Ethiopia yesterday.  Tear gas had also filled the town’s air. Many have been severely beaten and hospital beds have been crowded with sufferers. It has been impossible to verify the deaths and other causalities as the Hospital was surrounded by the Federal Police force.

Some sources in Dessie said two people have been killed. Causalities have been reported on both protesters and the police force in the Worebabu town and Mersa areas of the Amhara region. ESAT’s reporters indicated that eight people have so far been hurt and nine worshipers have been arrested. Police have also banned prayers in the town.
